What is D.R.U.M.?
DRUM is a web-based system designed for use by highways professionlas involved in roadworks that require lane closures to dual carriageways and motorways over and above the normal regulated hours of work. This is achieved by using historical and real traffic flow data to ensure that lane closures do not cause congestion. Case Study/ Contractor- Costain
How D.R.U.M. works?
- Measures live traffic flows.
- Models traffic management layouts on dual carriageway and motorways.
- Assesses optimum time of lane closure installations and impact upon road user journeys.
DRUM is a combination of solutions. The hardware is supplied by MTS, using the T25 which is an environmentally friendly solar recharged power source unit. It is fitted with the Wavetronix SmartSensor HD, a side- fired non intrusive microwave radar.
TRL ( Transport Research Laboratory) is responsible for the software, a web based service hosted on a server at TRL’s headquarters. Users with access permissions can log onto the website to view current and projected traffic conditions along with roadspace utilisation plans. The website is designed to be used on any PC or web-enabled mobile device. DRUM is a proven system that can be deployed on any dual carriageway or motorway in the UK within less than a week.
So why not enjoy the benefit of dynamic roadspace management from day one on your next project ?
Benefits of D.R.U.M
- Allow lane closures to be installed earlier or removed later.
- Provides early warning when a temporary lane closure must be removed to prevent congestion.
- Capture live traffic flows and measure journey time reliability during roadworks.
